Saturday September 30th:  Today was the first class of English Junior. We started with introductions, then we got on our way. We discusses that English class is about the study of works of art which may tell a story or convey a feeling. The main component of English is critical analysis. Our first critical analysis is a short film called Cat and Moth by India Barnardo. We analysed this film using a multi-modal analysis, where we split up the audio, visual, and texual components to analyze individually to maintain focus. After analysing the different modes and giving specific examples; we took time to write a short 100 word personal response to analyse the film. No homework today, but for next class, wer will have homework assignments to practice at home.

Saturday October 14th:  Today we started with functional writing. We practiced a PAT problem which requires you to write a newspaper article about a new park opening in the city. Afterwards, we learned how to write a story using a main event. It's important that all parts of the story revolve around the main event to make a unified idea. For homework, please finish your stories at home.

Saturday October 21st:  Today we started with setting up our readworks. Please remember to do your readworks assignment. We practiced several assignments in class. Your class code is HKMJZV and your password is 1234. Please visit readworks.org/student to complete your homework. After that, we read Stellaluna together with the class. Have a good weekend.

Saturday October 28th:  Today we started with a homework check. Those who didn't do their homework will have double homework! After that, we read the story, A Perfect Halloween: Mouse and Mole. We studied the characters, and used the story as inspiration to write our own Halloween story!

Saturday November 4th:  Today we started with storyboard writing for a fairytale of our choice. The purpose of the storyboard is to organize our thinking before we write. After which, we went through our Readworks homework, and finally, we went through Libby which can be used to borrow E-Books. Please select a book to read during the next two weeks as there is no class next Saturday, Rememberance Day.

Saturday November 18th:  Today we started our first novel study. Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Please read some of the book at home. It is available on Libby or from any library. We also went through our Readworks homework. Remember to do it!

Saturday November 25th:  Today we continued with our Novel Study after reviewing Readworks. Remember, you have Readworks assignments every week. For our Novel Study, we did character analysis for Greg and Rowley, analysing their history, personality, relationships, and convictions.

Saturday December 2nd:  Today we continued with our Novel Study after reviewing Readworks. We learned and analyzed Greg and the relationships he forms with the people around him. Consider how he feels versus what other people feel about him. For our personal responses, we analyzed this idea in depth.

Saturday December 9th:  Today we continued we finished our novel after completing Readworks. We reviewed the end of the novel, was it good, was it bad? Why did we enjoy or not enjoy this book. These are all questions that will be answered with out book review. Please finished the book review for homework.

Saturday December 16th:  Today we read a choose your adverture book about an alien abduction. How does the author create suspense in this novel? What strategies can we use to make a book more interesting. These are questions that we may think about when writing our own stories. Finally, we selected books for you to read over winter break. Merry Christmas.

Saturday January 6th:  Today we wrote stories using story starters. Continue with your readings at home. Afterwards, we practiced vocabulary and phonics with Wordicle. No Readworks this week, but you can still access readings from your library.

Saturday January 13th:  Today we read the Polar Express and wrote descriptive writings, making sure to use discriptive language, and figures of speech like similie and hyberbole. Please finish your descriptive writings at home. Afterwards,  we learned vocabulary using Scrabble.

Saturday January 20th:  Today we did a current event about the paper bag ban. Afterwards, we played Werewolf.

Saturday January 27th:  Today we practiced creative writing using writing prompts from reddit. Afterwards, we played world around.

Saturday February 3rd:  Today we did a reading comprehension, then we read The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. Lastly, we played Taboo. 

Saturday February 10th:  Today we read Koe no Katachi and answered questions. At the end we played Taboo.

Saturday February 24th:  Today we read You Choose, Alien Invasion. Your homework is to use what we learned to write your own adventure story.

Saturday March 2:  Today we read a non-fiction book on renewable energy, then we played Alien Invasion.

Saturday March 9:  Today we read murder on the Canadian.

Saturday March 16:  Today we read there will come soft rains.

April 13:  Today we read the Brother's Grimm version of Cinderella and completed personal responses.
