Thursday September 7th: It's the first day of English 7/8/9, we started with introductions and then talked about the definition of literature. We learned that literature can have many forms, from books, to movies, to music, and the purpose of studying English is to analyze and create these works. Next, we viewed the short film Cat and Moth by India Barnardo. This vibrant film taught us about how to do a multi-modal analysis, and how it can help clarify our thinking by seperating out the different modes (visual, audio, story, etc...). After watching the film, we spent time writing a short personal response. We learned that when writing, we should be specific, and avoid vagueness. Still, writing was difficult, there were many words we didn't know, but we learned that a dictionary like Pleco can be a great tool which doesn't disrupt learning like translator apps.
